Casa Colibri

Casa Colibri is a beautiful cabin-style rustic hostel centered in the middle of the quaint mountain town of San Gerardo de Rivas. Their slogan is "Todo con Amor" (Everything with love) which perfectly describes the energy of this magical place. Everything about Casa Colibri speaks of love for the community, the space, and the nature that surrounds it.

The hostel has four different rooms available for private or shared accommodations. The rooms are named after the elements: air, water, fire, and earth. The facility has a kitchen, lounge area, a balcony overlooking the mountains, and private river access.

When speaking with the creator and curator of the space, she shares this space is ideal for hikers, healers, hummingbirds (themselves and those that like to watch them), and heartists, which is her term to use for heart-led artists. Casa Colibrí is within the Chirripó Valley, neighbored by the Cerró Chirripó trailhead (1km walk) and Cloudbridge Nature Reserve (less than a 2km walk).

Casa Colibrí is owned and operated by Angela Davis, an American ex-pat who is here in Costa Rica to share this dream of co-creating and connecting with our creative hearts in community, along with holding space for healing here with the Earth and each other. Ang, as she’s commonly known, has been coming to Costa Rica since 2015.

She came to connect, heal, and learn about Costa Rica's “pura vida” way of being. She always dreamed of opening doors like those of Casa Colibrí. From her first visit, she knew so much awaited her here… and then, 7 years later, the dream became her reality.

In little over a year, Casa Colibri has transformed into so much more than a hostel or inn, it is a community center for the Chirripo Valley. They've recently gone through a number of renovations of the kitchen and communal areas.

They have also begun including regular events on their calendar. This integrative space is one where both locals and foreigners meet to share music, movement, mountain, and meditation. Events bring in local artists to share and spread their passions with everyone that steps through the door.

Some of these events include community hikes, silks and yoga classes, weekly vipassana meditation, game nights, local food events, and an event called "Creative Flow" dedicated to the creation of art.

They have hosted jazz concerts, ecstatic dances, acro yoga festivals, acoustic music nights, fire shows, and more!

Casa Colibri is still growing, but it has quickly turned into one of the most popular places to visit in the Chirripo Valley. We highly recommend staying at Casa Colibri if you're looking to spend time in a loving environment full of friendship, community, and art.
